Who We Are

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Redwood Ramp Camp is an action sport 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to enriching and transforming the lives of youth through environmental awareness, positive value-based camaraderie and the passion to ride (skateboards, bikes, scooters, surfboards). We strive to empower campers to creatively express themselves and others through: the love of the sport; leadership and volunteer opportunities; hands-on creative and critical-thinking experiences and education to inspire an appreciation and connection with the outdoors and one another.

What Sets Us Apart

We chose to be a non-profit for a reason. Our priority is the experience our campers have, not the money we will make. We are invested in providing low teacher/student customized instruction to give our campers wings, we are not an unstructured glorified daycare camp. We promote improvement and growth, not just in the passion to ride but as a person – regardless of gender, race, socioeconomic background and experience. Lack of funds will not limit one’s ability to pursue their passion. Your zip code does not define who you are.

Our instruction is unmatched. Our coaches are professional. If you want to learn how to skate, fall safely/properly, push yourself to exponentially improve, connect with other like-minded people, grow and develop both as a rider and as a person, we want you to join us.

What Sets Us Apart

ex-posure

exposure
The state of being exposed to contact with something

The skateboard doesn’t discriminate – it appeals to people of all ages, backgrounds, shapes, sizes and color. Several youth who feel they are on the fringe of society find a connection with skateboarding and the community that supports it. We are confident if a young person is exposed to the sport, positive benefits will be the result. Being exposed to the sport in a safe environment with qualified professionals diminishes any potential intimidation and boosts the courage to try. The culture of skateboarding respects and accepts those that try – encouraging and affirming sincere effort.

Our goals are more than just to provide exposure to the sport. We want kids to have exposure to positive relationships with peers, older riders, positive adult role models, and the environment. Some of the new skills and experiences the riders will have will not have anything to do with the board. They will be exposed to failure, perseverance, and pride.

ex-perience

experience
Practical contact with and observation of facts or events

After exposure, with practice, skills are expanded, confidence is improved and experience is gained. The more experience our campers get, the more confident, focused and empowered they are to take risks and handle life’s challenges. From a technical standpoint, riders become proficient at reading park lines, planning their runs, respecting skate park etiquette and fine tuning their skills.

RRC is a safe place to experience failure and foster growth. Allowing riders to experience the sport, the successes of mastering a new skill, or the challenges of being pushed and the pride of pushing themselves. That combination of nerves and excitement felt just before dropping in, we want to help individuals harness that confidence, and take that experience into the world at large. Youth will be empowered and their attributes (regardless of technical skill) recognized, appreciated and celebrated.

ex-cellence

excellence
The quality of being outstanding or extremely good

We want our campers to strive for excellence in self, in working for their individual goals (and common ones), and become experts in calculated critical thinking. We understand not every camper is going to go pro, not everyone has the skill-set, determination or dreams that big, but our dreams are realized when our campers achieve excellence as a person. We want to stoke their individual internal fires and provide them a safe guided environment to hone their character.

We have seen with mentoring and channeling efforts that amazing internal transformations are the result. We have been transformed ourselves.

The Dream Plan

The Dream Plan

RRC was started with an end goal in mind. We want to provide the ultimate wonderland of all overnight action sports camps. We are striving to gain support and raise funds to purchase an existing camp in Northern California. We want to be in the redwoods. We want to bring the awe of the outdoors back in the lives of kids surrounded by digital distractions. We want to provide hands-on artistic critical thinking curriculum in addition to exciting and unique terrain with variable degrees of difficulty for all ages and abilities. We want campfires that foster comraderie and friendships that will be remembered for a lifetime.

3-phase approach

Phase 1

Phase 1

We have been busy laying our roots, building our leadership team, doing all the legal and federal gymnastics to be a 501c3 non-profit entity (received IRS approval July 2018) and helping kids pursue their passion. We are hosting a limited amount of local day skate camps and clinics to gain momentum, build a camper base, test curriculum and help one another thrive. We are committed to an amazing camper experience as well as focusing our time on fundraising to move along to our phase 2.

Phase 2

Phase 2

With the financial support of individual donors and businesses in our community, we will purchase a 15-passenger van (and possibly 2 depending on demand) and take our camp on the road. We plan to offer mobile camps so campers can experience numerous skate camps in the bay area. In addition, we will plan field trips (and potential overnight adventures) to the redwoods to explore the outdoors and integrate hands-on learning opportunities.

Phase 2

Phase 3

Phase 3

Our end goal is to purchase an existing camp and build the ultimate outdoor action sports wonderland. Campers will be able to attend day camp, weekend camp or full week camps. We will build the robust parks and create terrain within the natural landscape. We will expand our offering to BMXers, scooter riders and surfers. In addition, we will expand our curriculum to include art projects, mentoring and leadership, volunteer and community opportunities, survival skills and outdoor appreciation, to name a few.

Testimonials

“I happened upon the Redwood Ramp Camp by accident, and I am sure glad that I did. While at the skatepark with my kids I was approached by an instructor of the camp. He came up and told me that he thought my son would benefit greatly from his camp. He also told me that I would see a huge difference in my child's skating at the end of one week. I was a little skeptical, but I asked my little boy if he was interested, and I ended up bringing my child back the next day for Skate Camp. At the end of one week I was blown away with the confidence my little boy discovered he had. He started the camp as an experienced 7-year-old skater... he came out of that first week of camp seriously next level. RRC is for kids at any level. I wish I could keep the Redwood Ramp Camp secret, but that wouldn't be fair to anybody!”

Jason A.

“My Son has attended several summer camp sessions at Redwood Ramp Camp. He loved it even from the first private lesson he did. I have already seen such a tremendous improvement in the way he skates, and the coach has been nothing but patient with him. Before he started here, he was always self-conscious about his skating abilities. Not any more, he has definitely built up his confidence. Would highly recommend. I guarantee you'll have a happy camper!”

Josephlyn G.
